International Print Center New York announces
GRAPHIC REALITY: Mexican Printmaking Today, a group
show of contemporary prints by Mexican artists curated by artist
and printmaker Artemio Rodriguez on view from Thursday, November
2nd-Wednesday, December 20th, in IPCNY’s gallery at 526
West 26th Street in Chelsea, Room 824.
GRAPHIC REALITY is the first major presentation of contemporary
Mexican prints in New York City in more than fifteen years.
It is the first showing in the United States of the graphic
work of many of these artists.
The complete artists’ list is as follows: Marcelo Balzaretti,
Silvia Capistrán, Mizraim Cárdenas, Demian Flores,
Oscar Camilo de las Flores, Veronica Gomez, Rogelio Gutierrez,
Dario Rámirez, Joel Rendón, Artemio Rodr´iguez,
José Hugo Sanchez, and Cesar Alberto Chavez Victoria.
The artists come from the following states: Oaxaca, Puebla,
Michoacan and Sonora, as well as Mexico City.
GRAPHIC REALITY documents the continuing vitality of
printmaking in Mexico today. Some forty prints are in the Exhibition,
dating from 1994-2006 and including etchings, drypoints, lithographs,
woodcuts, linocuts, serigraphs, silkscreened skateboards, and
animation pieces.
An Opening Reception will be held at IPCNY on Thursday, November
2nd, from 5-8 p.m. at which time Mr. Rodriguez will be present,
together with four of the artists represented in the Exhibition:
Marcelo Balzaretti, Silvia Capistrán, Demian Flores and
Hugo Sanchez. Mr. Rodriguez’s prints are documented in
American Dream, published by La Mano Press in 2006.
Mr. Rodriguez is also the director of La Mano Press in Los Angeles.
On Saturday, November 4th at 10 a..m., the Curator and four
of the artists will participate in a program of Artists’
Talks at IPCNY. This event is open to the public. The participating
artists are Marcelo Balzaretti, Silvia Capistrán, Demian
Flores and Hugo Sanchez.
Mr. Rodriguez will also be participating in the artonpaper symposium
on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Editions/Artists’ Books ’06
fair (www.eabfair.com).
GRAPHIC REALITY: Mexican Printmaking Today will travel
to Columbia College, Chicago, IL, after its presentation at
IPCNY. The Exhibition will take place at the gallery of the
Center for Book and Paper Arts. Dates of the Exhibition are
January 12th-February 24th, 2007. A broadside with an interview
with Mr. Rodriguez will accompany the Exhibition.

and Natasha Gelman Trust. Additional major funding has been
provided by The Reed Foundation. Generous support has also come
from Yvonne Dadoo de Lewis, The Mexican Cultural Institute of
New York and Mexicana Airlines.
International Print Center New York is a 501(c)(3) non-profit
institution dedicated to the appreciation and understanding
of the fine art print. IPCNY nurtures the growth of new audiences
for the visual arts while serving the print community through
exhibitions, publications and educational programs.
