New Prints
2003/Winter

January 30, 2003

International Print Center New York announces the seventh presentation of its New Prints Program from Thursday, February 6th through Wednesday, March 12th in its Chelsea gallery at 526 West 26th Street. New Prints 2003/Winter is one of a series of juried exhibitions organized by IPCNY, presenting current prints by both established and emerging artists.

With New Prints 2003/Winter, IPCNY continues its rotating presentations of current prints, establishing an ongoing venue for the viewing of contemporary artists' prints and a central source of information about artists working in the medium of printmaking. For New Prints 2003/Winter, the Selections Committee, which changes with each New Prints exhibition, was comprised of the following members: Ann Fensterstock, collector and educator; Joseph Goddu, Director, Hirschl & Adler Galleries Inc.; Laura Steward Heon, Curator, MASS MoCA; Faye Hirsch, writer and critic; Leonard Lehrer, Dean, Fine and Performing Arts, Columbia College, Chicago; and Judith Solodkin, Master Printer and Director, SOLO Impression, New York. An essay by Faye Hirsch offers curatorial comment on the exhibition. Sandra Lang continues in her role as consultant to the program.

IPCNY received some 1,000 submissions for New Prints 2003/Winter, all released within the past year. The committee selected forty prints and one artist's book from a wide range of sources, with many artists and presses new to IPCNY's New Prints shows. These include a number of individual artists who self-publish their prints, and the following publishers:

Vincent Fitzgerald & Co., Gemini G.E.L. at Joni Moisant Weyl, Jenkins Sikkema Editions, and Leroy Neiman Center for Print Studies, all of New York City; The Lawrence Lithography Workshop, Kansas City, MO.; the Women's Studio Workshop, Rosendale, New York; and 66 Margaritas of Barcelona, Spain.

The complete artist list is as follows: Polly Apfelbaum, Karin Bos, Brad Brown, Myrna Burks and Rosaire Appel, Pepa Busque, Francis Cape, Peter Doig, Aleksandar Duravcevic, Amze Emmons, Joanne Greenbaum, Gesine Janzen, Marguerite Kahrl, Aya Kakeda, Tohru Kanayama, Claude Kent, Cynthia Lollis and Annette Gates, Brian Lynch, Suzanne McClelland, Adam Pitt, Richard Serra, Barbara Takenaga, Tomas Vu-Daniel, Leslie Wayne.

All prints in New Prints 2003/Winter are for sale. IPCNY refers potential purchasers directly to the artist, publisher or gallery which supplied the print. IPCNY requires no commission on sales.

International Print Center New York is a non-profit institution founded to promote the greater appreciation and understanding of the fine art print worldwide. Through innovative programming, it fosters a climate for the enjoyment, examination and serious study of artists' prints-from the old master to the contemporary. IPCNY offers its members a program of workshop and gallery visits, and has established an informational website. IPCNY depends upon public and private donations to support its programs.

New Prints 2003/Winter is funded in part with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, Manhattan Arts Development Fund, The New York State Council on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The gallery is open from noon until 6 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday. For additional information, please call (212) 989-5090 or visit IPCNY's website. New Prints 2003/Winter will be posted and documented on the site together with prior exhibitions presented by IPCNY.
