In
an effort to promote a greater understanding of the world of fine
art prints, IPCNY developed the 6:45 Print Club. This young members'
group has been created to expose art enthusiasts to different
aspects of the print experience. Through scheduled events, members
increase familiarity with the techniques of printmaking and knowledge
of print purchasing and collecting. Club members are invited to
special presentations and artists' talks at the Center where contemporary
prints are discussed in an exhibition context. The 6:45 Print
Club is also invited to all openings and additional IPCNY members'
events.
Six
events are scheduled exclusively for members of the 6:45 Print
Club each year. These events focus on one of the four following
areas:
- Printmaking.
Through visits to print presses and open discussions with artists
and master printers, members learn the various techniques of
making a print, from traditional etching and lithography to
contemporary digital printmaking.
- Print
Exhibition.
While focusing on the role of the not-for-profit center in the
exhibition of prints, members learn how artists and their work
are introduced to the community. Exhibitions, both at the Center
and at museum or gallery spaces in New York, are visited, and
the work is discussed with artists, curators, and directors.
- Print
Purchasing.
By visiting commercial galleries or previewing print fairs or
upcoming auctions, members learn what to look for before purchasing
a print. Questions of edition size, condition, and authenticity
are addressed.
- Print
Collecting.
Through tours of public and private collections, members are
introduced to strategies for beginning, focusing, and maintaining
a collection. Issues of proper print framing and conservation
are also discussed.
